City staff are proposing changing Apple Street between King Street and Water Street to a Northbound Only One-Way Street. The conversion to a one-way street will eliminate the sightline and encroachment issues drivers are facing at the Apple Street and Water Street intersection. St. Andrew Street which runs parallel to Apple, is currently a Southbound Only One-Way Street which would compliment this modification. Further to the west, Home street is a larger boulevard, two-way street servicing both directions as well as parking.
Apple Street Existing
Apple Street between King Street and Water Street currently allows for traffic in both directions. The existing asphalt width is 8.9m for most of this section of Apple Street. There is currently parking permitted on Apple Street on the west, southbound lane only. In winter months, the dual-direction, street parking, and winter maintenance create a slalom effect for motorists while navigating the street.
Apple Street Proposed
Apple Street between King St and Water St would become a northbound only one-way street. There will still be parking permitted on the west side, but only for northbound vehicles.
